LAKE OKEECHOBEE: The sixteen anglers who qualified for the Fort Myers Bass Club Fish-Off Championship out of Lakeport’s Harney Pond Recreation Area encountered tough post-front conditions, but still managed lots of quality bass from the Harney Pond and Indian Prairie Canal areas and the Monkey Box. Terry Metzger’s 10 bass weighing 24.9 pounds was good for the $916 win. Richard Williams also had 10 fish including the 6.65-pound big bass, for $763 take home. Kevin Varnadoe, Donny Bass and Tyler Brinks also had 10-bass bags, for respective paychecks of $610, $458 and $305.

The top techniques were flipping and pitching soft plastic baits into floating mats and heavy cover with 1.5-ounce tungsten weights, and casting spinnerbaits and Senkos.

At the last meeting, Tyler brought up the poor condition of our weigh-in bags. Because of the low turnout at the September meeting, the decision was made to discuss our options at the October meeting.
